Brandee Jasmine

Brandee Jasmine Mimitzraiem (she/her/hers) is clergy and scholar. She was ordained an itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 2003. She holds the Master of Divinity, the Master of Theological Studies (in theology and ethics), and the Master of Philosophy (in theology and philosophy). She keeps saying she’ll finish her dissertation, titled “She Found God in Herself: Rethinking the Theological Methods of Feminist and Womanist Theologies,” an effort that mothering, pastoring, and living has sidelined for far too long.

Brandee Jasmine is the Purple-Haired Preacher: a loud-mouthed Black girl from Denver who never knew when to shut up. She speaks. She always has something to say. About everything. And she’s unafraid to say it. She speaks from the pulpit. She speaks through the written word. She speaks through the several tattoos she boasts. She speaks her mind, her theology, and “what thus sayeth the Lord,” freely and unapologetically.

Brandee Jasmine prioritizes the well-being within the real-lived experiences of Black Queer women and children. She works to create and sustain safe places across the intersectional realities of race, sexuality, gender expression, and class within the Church and in communities. She has two donor-conceived children who keep life full of laughter.

Brandee Jasmine pastored congregations in Utah, Kansas, and Nebraska. She worked closely with community organizations, serving on the Independence City strategic planning community, on the board of Community with a Heart, with Interfaith Power and Light, was a founding member of the Independence Police Chief Advisory Committee, and the Founding President of the Nebraska Religious Council for Religious Freedom. She is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
